From the Temple of Adam to the New Jerusalem

For generations, the modern Western church has approached the Bible with a severe, historical blindness. We have opened the first pages of Genesis and demanded that the ancient Hebrew text answer the questions of 21st-century, post-Enlightenment biology and physics. We have reduced the majestic, sweeping narrative of Scripture into a sterile textbook about cellular mitosis, the molecular assembly of dirt, and the skeletal cloning of a calcium rib-bone.

But the Bible did not drop out of the sky into a magical, historical vacuum. God spoke to humanity using the language, the architecture, and the geopolitical structures they already understood. If we want to understand the Word of God, we must read it through the eyes of the Ancient Near East people who were carried along by the Holy Spirit in what they were writing.

In the ancient world, reality was not defined by the periodic table of elements. Reality was defined by Covenants. A nation, a people, or a cosmos (functional order of things) did not truly exist until a Great King conquered the chaos, established a law, and adopted a people through a legally binding Suzerain-Vassal treaty.

To the ancient mind, creation was not the manufacturing of physical matter. Creation was the establishment of political, societal, and temple order out of a wild wasteland. We see this in the secular historical record.

In the Babylonian Enuma Elish, the god Marduk creates by assigning functions to the stars and building the city and temple of Babylon. In the Egyptian Memphite Theology, the creator god Ptah brings forth order by establishing the political provinces and installing the local shrines. Creation always culminates in the building of a Temple where the Great King can take His throne and rest.

Moses was not plagiarizing these pagan myths. He was using the universal diplomatic language of his day to launch a devastating theological polemic against the false gods of the nations. Moses was declaring to the ancient world that their gods are not the Great King. Yahweh is the true Suzerain, and He is building a Cosmic Temple.

PART ONE: THE COVENANTAL CREATION AND THE TEMPLE MAN

Let's look at the raw, rigid Hebrew of the very first verses of the Bible.

Genesis 1:1-2:

"In-a-head-summit He-cut-and-carved-into-shape, the-Ones-who-Bind-by-Word-and-Power, the-very-substance-of-the-high-waters-and-heavens and-the-very-substance-of-the-land-and-firm-ground. And-the-land had-become an-unformed-wasteland and-a-vacant-void..."

The physical dirt was already there in verse two. God is taking a non-covenant, unorganized wasteland and functionally organizing it into a Cosmic Temple. And at the center of this Temple, God installs His royal representative.

Genesis 1:26:

"And-He-uttered-for-saying, the-Ones-who-Bind-by-Word-and-Power, 'Let-Us-accomplish-the-making-of a-ground-ling [adam] in-Our-shadow [tselem], as-Our-pattern-of-being..."

In the ancient world, the image of God was not a biological classification. It was a strictly royal, political title. In the Assyrian court letters of King Esarhaddon, the emperor is explicitly called the salmu, the image, of the god Bel. Just as an ancient emperor would place a statue of himself in a conquered territory to declare his dominion, God takes a ground-ling out of the dirt, elevates him to royal status, and places him in the sanctuary of Eden.

This ground-ling, Adam, is the architectural blueprint of the Temple cultus system. He was to function as a protecting warlord and high priest. But God declares that the Temple is not functionally-good because it is missing its covenantal partner to execute the divine liturgy.

So what does God do? Genesis 2:21-22 tells us:

"And-He-caused-to-fall, He-Who-Breathes-Existence... a-deep-trance-and-vision upon the-ground-ling... and-He-took one from-his-architectural-sides-and-chambers [tsela], and-He-shut-and-closed flesh [basar] under-her-in-its-place. And-He-built-and-constructed [banah]... the-very-substance-of-the-architectural-side-chamber [tsela] which He-took from the-ground-ling into a-she-man-wife..."

God is not performing orthopedic bone surgery. The Hebrew word tsela is used over 40 times in the Old Testament, and it exclusively refers to the architectural side-chambers of the Tabernacle and Solomon's Temple, as seen in 1 Kings 6:5. What was stored in the side-chambers of the Temple. The Treasury. The gold, the silver, the fine linen, the anointing oil.

God puts the Temple Man into a deep sleep, cuts the flesh to swear a covenant oath, which is the very first circumcision, and opens the Treasury of the Temple. He brings forth the Bride, the wealth and operational glory of the covenant. It is a breathtaking inauguration of the Old Covenant system.

PART TWO: THE FALL TO THE DUST AND THE BEASTS OF THE FIELD

But Adam commits treason. He breaks the Suzerain treaty.

Hosea 6:7:

"And-they, like-a-ground-ling [Adam], crossed-over-and-transitioned a-cut-treaty [berith]; there they-acted-treacherously-and-covered-over in-Me."

Because of his treason, God exiles Adam from the sanctuary. God declares in Genesis 3:19:

"...for dry-dust [aphar] you-are, and-unto dry-dust you-shall-turn-back."

This is not a statement about the periodic table of elements. In the Ancient Near East, dust was the ultimate political idiom for a lowly state of being, submission, and shame. In the diplomatic Amarna Letters, circa 1350 BC, translated by Dr. William L. Moran, Canaanite vassal kings routinely wrote to the Egyptian Pharaoh to express their total submission, stating: "I fall at the feet of the king... I am the dirt beneath the sandals of the king... I am the footstool of the king."

To return to the dust is to be politically demoted. Adam is cast out of the Holy of Holies, out of the presence of God, and thrown down to the dust of the footstool. He is exiled into the realm of the non-covenant nations and was demoted from high priest to an ordained priest, also losing his kingly status.

And how does the Bible refer to the non-covenant nations? As the beasts.

Ecclesiastes 3:18:

"I-said in-my-inner-heart upon the-word-and-matter of-the-sons of-the-ground-ling, that-the-Ones-who-Bind-by-Word-and-Power might-clarify-and-purge them, and-to-inspect that they, dumb-beasts-and-quadrupeds [behemah] to-themselves."

Throughout the Prophets, the trees are the kings and empires, the grass is the civilian population, as Isaiah 40:7 states, "surely the populace is grass," and the beasts of the field are the non-covenant Gentiles.

We must firmly anchor this in the prophetic literature. If we look at the visions of the prophets, the pagan empires that surround and oppress Israel are never depicted as covenant men. They are exclusively depicted as wild, predatory beasts.

Daniel 7:3:

"And-four wild-beasts [cheyva], massive-ones, were-coming-up from-the-sea, diverse-and-different this-one from-that-one."

God does not leave this imagery to our imagination. The angel explicitly interprets the cosmology for Daniel in verse 17, stating, "These-very wild-beasts, the-massive-ones, which are four, are four kings who will-stand-up-and-arise from the-land-and-firm-ground."

The pagan empires of Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece, and Rome are perfectly identified in the divine courtroom as wild beasts. The Levitical dietary laws in the Torah, which commanded Israel to separate clean animals from unclean beasts, were not primarily about physical health and nutrition. They were a daily, pedagogical liturgy teaching the Israelites the strict cosmological division between the clean covenant people and the unpurged, non-covenant nations.

If there's any doubt that this is the correct hermeneutic, the New Testament completely removes it.

In Acts chapter 10, the early Church is facing a massive theological transition. The time has come for the covenant to expand outward, but the Jewish Christians still view the Gentiles as unclean outsiders. So God gives the Apostle Peter a vision to unlock the cosmology of Genesis and Leviticus.

Acts 10:11-12:

"...and-he-observes the-sky-heaven unveiled-and-opened... in-which subsisted all the-four-footed-ones and-venomous-wild-beasts [therion] of-the-soil-land..."

A voice commands Peter to kill and eat these unclean beasts. Peter refuses, stating he has never eaten anything profane or unpurged. The Placer, God, replies that what He has cleansed, Peter must not call profane.

Does Peter conclude that God has simply changed the dietary menu? No. Peter perfectly understands the ancient cosmological code. When Peter arrives at the house of Cornelius, a Roman Centurion, an unclean Gentile, Peter provides the infallible, divine interpretation of the animal vision.

Acts 10:28:

"And-he-declared to-them... the-Placer exposed-to-me no human-faced-one [anthropos] to-call profane-and-common or foul-and-unpurged."

God showed Peter a vision of literal wild beasts, and Peter explicitly declares that the beasts represented human-faced-ones. The beasts were the Gentiles.

When we return to the first page of Genesis, the narrative becomes radiantly clear. When God created the beasts of the field, He was not giving us a taxonomic list of biological mammals. He was organizing the non-covenant peoples of the earth, assigning them their function outside the sanctuary, and preparing the stage for the royal ground-ling to exercise militaristic, kingly dominion over them.

PART THREE: THE TRAGEDY OF THE RICH YOUNG RULER

This brings us to the real backdrop of the Gospels. For over a millennium, the descendants of Abraham lived under the Old Covenant. The physical dirt of Israel, the physical stones of the Jerusalem Temple, and the physical wealth of the land were their covenantal inheritance.

But then, the Last Adam arrives. Jesus Christ steps onto the scene to inaugurate the New Covenant. The True Temple has finally come to replace the physical shadow.

And out of the crowd walks a man who represents the absolute pinnacle of Old Covenant success: The Rich Young Ruler.

Mark 10:17:

"And-as-He-was-going-out into the-way, one having-run-up and having-fallen-to-the-knees before-Him, was-questioning Him, 'Teacher, functionally-good-one, what shall-I-do so-that life of-the-ages [zoe aionios] I-might-inherit.'"

This young man is asking how to inherit life of the ages, what we call eternal life, but which literally means the life of the incoming New Covenant Age. He wants to cross over from the Old Creation into the New Creation.

Jesus reminds him of the Old Covenant stipulations, and the young man proudly declares he has kept them all from his youth. He has been a flawless vassal under the Law of Moses. But Jesus knows that the Old Heavens and Earth are about to be violently de-created. Jesus knows that the physical dirt of Israel is about to burn.

Mark 10:21-22:

"And-Jesus, having-looked-intently at-him, showed-affectionate-love to-him, and-uttered to-him, 'One-thing to-you lacks; go-away, as-many-things-as you-possess, sell, and-give to-the-beggars-and-poor-ones, and-you-will-have a-treasury [thesauros] in the-sky-heavens; and-come, follow Me.' But-he, having-become-gloomy upon the-word, went-away sorrowing, for he-was possessing properties-and-estates [ktema], numerous-ones."

Look at the profound tragedy of this moment through the lens of Covenantal Cosmology. Under the Old Covenant, in Leviticus 25:23, God commanded the Israelites never to permanently sell their land, because the physical dirt was the headquarters of the covenant and the Israelites were tenants and sojourners.

But Jesus is declaring that the physical shadow is nearing its end. The New Heavens and the New Earth have arrived in Him. Jesus looks at the Rich Young Ruler and issues the ultimate covenantal test. He tells him to liquidate his Old Covenant real estate. Sell his physical dirt. His estates belong to an age that is passing away. Jesus tells him to walk away from the physical side-chamber of the earthly Temple, and He will give him a treasury in the spiritual New Heavens.

But the Rich Young Ruler cannot do it. He loves the physical dust of the Old Covenant more than the spiritual glory of the New Covenant. He refuses to step out of the shadow. He clings to the literal dirt, completely blind to the fact that the Roman armies are coming to turn his beloved estates into a graveyard. He walked away from the Last Adam, choosing to remain in the dust of the First Adam.

PART FOUR: ACTS 4 AND THE GREAT PROPHETIC SHORT-SALE

To fully appreciate the geopolitical and legal contrast between the Old Covenant prophets and the New Covenant apostles, we must look at the exact legal vocabulary God uses when He commands Jeremiah to buy the field.

While the Babylonian siege ramps were literally being built against the walls of Jerusalem, God orders Jeremiah to perform a legally binding real estate transaction.

Jeremiah 32:7:

"Behold-and-look-now, Grace-of-God son-of-your-uncle is-coming unto-you for-the-uttering, 'Acquire-and-purchase for-yourself the-very-substance-of my-level-field which is in-Anathoth, for to-you is the-judgment-and-right of-the-kinsman-redemption [ge'ullah] to-acquire-and-purchase.'"

Jeremiah 32:14:

"Thus utters He-Who-Breathes-Existence of-the-Appointed-Armies, the-Ones-who-Bind-by-Word-and-Power of-Israel: Take the-very-substance-of these-scrolls-of-reckoning, the-very-substance-of scroll-of the-acquired-possession, the-this-one, and-the-very-substance-of the-sealed-one, and-the-very-substance-of scroll-of the-exposed-and-opened-one, and-you-shall-give-and-put-them in-a-vessel-of earthen-clay, for-the-sake-of their-standing-firm days, numerous-ones."

Jeremiah 32:15:

"For thus utters He-Who-Breathes-Existence of-the-Appointed-Armies, the-Ones-who-Bind-by-Word-and-Power of-Israel: Again they-will-be-acquired-and-purchased, houses and-level-fields and-vineyards, in-the-land-and-firm-ground, the-this-one."

The Argument Breakdown:

The Law of the Kinsman-Redeemer:

In verse 7, Jeremiah is told to buy the land because he holds the mishpat ha-ge'ullah, the legal right of the kinsman-redemption. Under the Old Covenant system established in Leviticus 25, if an Israelite became impoverished and had to sell his ancestral land, his closest relative, the kinsman-redeemer, was legally obligated to step in and buy it to keep the physical dirt within the covenant family. God is strictly enforcing the Old Covenant real estate law even as the city is burning.

The Earthen Vessel and the Preserved Shadow:

In verse 14, God commands Jeremiah to take the physical, legally sealed scrolls of the deed and bury them in an earthen clay vessel. The physical documentation of the earthly covenant had to be preserved in the dirt. God was ensuring that after the Babylonian exile, the Israelites would have the legal deeds to reclaim their exact geographic plots of land. The physical shadow was being preserved because the time of the ultimate anti-type had not yet arrived.

The Guarantee of the Old Covenant Return:

In verse 15, God gives the theological reason for this transaction. He declares that houses and fields and vineyards will once again be bought and sold in this physical land. God is swearing a covenant oath that the physical geopolitical nation of Israel would be restored. The shadow of the Old Covenant was not yet finished.

The Theological Contrast for Acts 4:

When we place Jeremiah 32 next to Acts 4, the shift from the Old Covenant to the New Covenant becomes undeniable.

Jeremiah was commanded to act as the kinsman-redeemer to save the physical dirt, burying the physical deeds in an earthen jar to preserve the Old Covenant shadow.

This was a profound prophetic sign. God was declaring that the Old Covenant era was not over. Israel would return from exile. Houses and fields and vineyards would be bought again in the physical land. Jeremiah was investing in the temporary continuation of the Old Covenant system. The physical dirt still held its covenantal significance.

By the guidance of the apostles who had their minds opened up fully to the writings after Jesus’ resurrection, the early Church recognized that the time of Jeremiah had passed, and they did exactly what the Rich Young Ruler refused to do. Read the Book of Acts through this covenantal framework, and the actions of the Apostles will leave you utterly speechless.

If the physical land of Israel was the eternal, biological promise of God, the early Christians were flagrantly breaking the Law of Moses by selling their inherited family farms. But they were not breaking the law. They were perfectly keeping the Torah by participating in its final, prophetic climax. They were preparing for the final Sabbath year, the ultimate Shemittah, and the grand Jubilee.

To understand the genius of what the early Church was doing, we must understand the Levitical Law and the very first sermon Jesus preached.

Leviticus 25:10:

"And-you-will-set-apart-as-holy the-year of-the-fiftieth year, and-you-will-proclaim a-release-of-liberty [deror] in-the-land to-all her-sitters-and-inhabitants; a-ram-horn-jubilee [yobel] it-will-be to-you, and-you-will-return each-man unto his-possession, and-each-man unto his-clan you-will-return."

Luke 4:18-19:

"The-wind-and-spirit [pneuma] of-the-Lord-Master is upon Me... to-send-forth the-ones-having-been-crushed in a-release-of-liberty [aphesis], to-proclaim a-year of-the-Lord-Master, an-acceptable-and-welcome-one."

Under the Old Covenant, the Shemittah was the seventh year of Sabbath rest, where debts were canceled and the land lay fallow. After seven cycles of seven years, the fiftieth year was the Yobel, the Jubilee. The Jubilee was a societal reset button. All slaves were freed, all massive debts were forgiven, and all physical land was released and returned to its original tribal inheritance.

But the physical Jubilee was merely a shadow, a type pointing forward to the ultimate anti-type. The physical land and the physical debt were teaching tools to prepare Israel for the arrival of the Great King who would cancel the spiritual debt of the death; the separation of God from His people; and restore humanity to their inheritance in the Cosmic Temple.

This is exactly what Jesus announces in Luke chapter 4. He walks into the synagogue, opens the scroll of Isaiah, and declares that He is the fulfillment of the Jubilee. He is the acceptable year of the Lord. He brings the ultimate aphesis, the ultimate release of liberty. Not to mention He is invoking the entirety of Isaiah 61 which includes the vengeance and the adorning of the bridegroom and the bride for the wedding ceremony.

Therefore, when we arrive at Acts chapter 4, the early Christians are not rebelling against Moses. They are recognizing that the shadow has given way to the substance. The physical land was designed to be released.

By selling their ancestral properties, the believers were declaring that the ultimate Jubilee had finally arrived in the Last Adam. They no longer needed to cling to the temporary physical dirt of Canaan because their eternal inheritance in the New Jerusalem was secured. They were legally and willingly releasing their physical land to the blind, apostate Pharisees, because the true Israelite no longer possessed a physical deed. The true Israelite possessed the Spirit of God.

They were keeping the Torah in its highest, most exalted form. The author of Hebrews confirms this in chapter 4, declaring that there remains a Sabbath-rest for the people of God. The early Christians sold their farms because they were ceasing from their earthly, physical labors to enter into the age-during Sabbath-rest of the New Covenant.

Acts 4:34-35:

"...for as-many-as possessors of-lands or of-houses existed, selling-them they-were-bringing the-prices of-the-things-being-sold and-were-placing-them alongside the-feet of-the-emissaries."

In financial terms, shorting a stock means you have insider information that an asset is about to crash, so you liquidate it before everyone else realizes it is doomed. The early Christians executed the greatest prophetic short-sale in human history.

Jesus told them in Matthew 24 that the physical Temple, the city of Jerusalem, and the physical geopolitical system of Apostate Israel were going to be violently de-created within that generation. The Christians had the insider information. They knew the Roman army was coming.

So who was buying the land from the Christians in Acts 4? The unbelieving Jews. The corrupt Pharisees and Sadducees, the wealthy aristocracy whom Jesus condemned for devouring widows' houses (Luke 20:47, Mark 12:40). The apostate elites rejected the prophecy of Christ. They thought the physical Temple would last forever. They thought they were making fantastic real estate investments. The unbelieving Jews who bought the land were hoarding the shadow, completely blind to the fact that the Roman armies were coming to turn their real estate into ashes. The Christians were embracing the substance, perfectly executing the final Jubilee and transferring their wealth to build the eternal sanctuary of the New Heavens and the New Earth.
The Apostle Paul tells us in 2 Corinthians 4:7 that under the New Covenant, we no longer put physical scrolls of real estate into earthen jars. Instead, we have this treasure, the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, in earthen vessels, which are our human bodies.

The Christians matter-of-factly took the money from the blind, apostate elites and used it to fund the New Covenant Church’s missions. They liquidated the physical shadow to invest in the spiritual substance, leaving the unbelieving Jewish aristocracy holding the deeds to dirt that was about to be burned to ash.

PART FIVE: THE NUMBER OF THE BEAST AND THE COVENANT ECONOMY

This immense transfer of wealth and land flows perfectly into the stark contrast we see in the book of Revelation. The early believers were willingly impoverishing themselves because they were facing a severe, targeted economic blockade orchestrated by the old covenant system.

Revelation 13 describes this exact system where the saints are persecuted economically.

Revelation 13:16-18:

"And-that not anyone might-be-able to-buy-in-the-market [agorazo] or to-sell [poleo] except the-one having the-stamp-and-mark [charagma], the-name of-the-venomous-wild-beast [therion] or the-number of-the-name of-it. Here the-wisdom is. The-one having a-mind let-him-calculate the-number of-the-wild-beast, for a-number of-a-human-faced-one [anthropos] it-is; and-the-number of-it is six-hundred sixty-six."

To understand this number, we must let the scripture interpret itself and look to the Old Testament. The number 666 is a direct historical reference to King Solomon.

1 Kings 10:14:

"And-it-became, the-weight of-the-gold, the-one-coming to-Solomon in-one year, six-hundred sixty and-six talents of-gold."

This exact detail is also repeated in 2 Chronicles 9:13. The context of these chapters is highly specific. This staggering wealth of 666 talents of gold marked the absolute height of Solomon's earthly power, but it also marked the exact moment of his apostasy. He became enticed by the wealth of the non-covenant nations.

As 1 Kings 11 records, he immediately began to multiply gold, multiply horses, and take foreign wives from the pagan nations, all of which God explicitly forbade the kings of Israel to do in the Law of Moses. Because of this, his kingdom and rule were destined for a downfall. The number 666 simply has to do with allegiance to Gentile riches and physical earthly wants versus the spiritual things of God.

Therefore, Revelation 13 is about the old covenant system of apostate Israel. The Jewish leadership was acting as a beast, enforcing an economic boycott and chastising the Jewish believers in Christ. They were not allowed to buy, sell, or trade in Jerusalem as long as they were persevering in Christ. The mark of the beast was the requirement to show allegiance to the wealthy, apostate, 666-system of earthly Israel.

Because of this targeted economic starvation, the Jewish Christians in Jerusalem were pushed into deep poverty. This is the exact reason why the Apostle Paul was continuously gathering emergency funds from the Gentile churches.

1 Corinthians 16:1-3:

"Now concerning the-collection, the-one for the-set-apart-holy-ones [hagios]... whenever I-might-arrive, whomsoever you-might-approve through written-epistles, these I-will-send to-carry the-joy-favor [charis] of-you into Jerusalem."

Romans 15:25-27:

"But now I-am-journeying into Jerusalem, ministering-and-serving to-the-set-apart-holy-ones. For Macedonia and Achaia were-well-pleased to-make a-certain sharing-communion [koinonia] for the-beggars-and-poor-ones of-the-set-apart-holy-ones, the-ones in Jerusalem. For they-were-well-pleased, and debtors they-are to-them; for if to-the spiritual-things of-them the nations shared-in-communion, they-ought also in the fleshly-and-earthly-things to-minister-publicly to-them."

Paul states that the Gentiles should give earthly contributions in the form of money to the saints in Jerusalem, who had given them spiritual contributions. The Jewish saints had been economically devastated by the 666 beast system of their brethren.

This entire framework contrasts perfectly with the rich young ruler. He was commanded to abandon the physical dirt and the 666 wealth system of the apostate earthly city, but he could not do it. He chose the earthly wealth of the beast over the kingdom of God.

PART SIX: THE TWO VEILS AND THE COVENANTAL TRANSITION

To fully grasp the magnitude of this transition, we must look at the crucifixion of the Last Adam and the architecture of the Temple. The physical Temple was the architectural model of the cosmos, and it had two veils. The massive first curtain stood at the entrance of the Holy Place, completely barring the non-covenant Gentiles, the beasts, from entering the sanctuary.

But look at what God promised in Jeremiah 31:27:

"Behold-and-look-now, days are-entering... and-I-will-scatter-seed the-dwelling-house of-Israel... with-a-sowing of-a-ground-ling [adam] and-a-sowing of-a-dumb-beast [behemah]."

God promised a New Covenant where the Jew, the man, and the Gentile, the beast, would be united.

When Jesus Christ dies on the cross, Matthew 27:51 tells us:

"And-also behold the down-spread-curtain of-the inner-dwelling-sanctuary was-split-as-fact away-from-the-source-of up-above until down-below into-motion-towards two, and-also the earth was-shaken-as-fact..."

This was the first veil. The barrier separating the outer court from the inner court is destroyed. The New Covenant is inaugurated, and the Gentiles are grafted into the congregation. As Paul writes in Ephesians 2:14, the middle wall of the fencing enclosure was broken down and loosed.

But we must read the biblical framework carefully. The tearing of the first veil was the grafting in of the nations, but the curse of Genesis 3 was not yet fully reversed. There was a second veil. The second veil guarded the Most Holy Place, the presence of God and the Tree of Life.

In Hebrews Paul explicitly explains this overlapping transition period in Hebrews 9:8:

"The-wind-and-spirit the-set-apart-one making-this-evident, not-yet to-have-been-made-manifest the-way of-the-holy-places, while the-foremost-first tent is-having-a-standing."

As long as the physical Temple and the Law of Moses had a standing, the second veil remained. The Old Covenant system was fading, but it had not yet been fully taken out of the way.

Even so, the exact moment the first veil is torn, the rocks split and the tombs open. The reversal of the Genesis 3 curse is initiated. The First Adam brought us into the dust of the graves. The Last Adam begins to pull us out of them. Matthew 27 is likely the fulfillment of Ezekiel 37, where God promised to open the graves of His people. But notice, Matthew says the saints waited in the tombs for three days, entering the Holy City only after Christ's resurrection. This is because the Vassal cannot precede the King.

The Last Adam, the Federal Head, had to conquer the death first, perfectly fulfilling Hosea 6:2, which states that in the third day He will cause us to stand up and rise. These resurrected saints were the first-fruits, a prophetic sign of the coming consummation and a shadow of the spiritual resurrection.

For a generation, forty years, the early Church lived in the overlapping of two ages. The New Covenant was inaugurated, but the Old Covenant was still functioning in its death throes.

Hebrews 8:13 defines this era.

"In-that to-say 'fresh-and-new,' He-has-made-obsolete the-foremost-first; and-that-which is-growing-old and-aging is near-to disappearing-and-vanishing."

The ultimate consummation required the total removal of the second veil. The final climax of this covenantal shift occurred in AD 70.

In AD 70, the Roman army surrounded Jerusalem. The Old Covenant heavens and earth were violently de-created, and the physical Temple was leveled to the dust. The second veil was permanently removed.

In Revelation 17 and 18, the Apostle John sees a vision of a Great Harlot called Mystery Babylon. She is dressed in purple, scarlet, gold, and precious stones, which are the exact, specific garments of the Israelite High Priest detailed in Exodus 28. Mystery Babylon is not Rome. She is Apostate Jerusalem. She is the covenant wife who took the treasury of God and played the harlot.

When the Harlot City is burned with fire in Revelation 18:11, the text says:

"And-also the-merchants-and-traveling-traders of-the-land-and-soil weep and-also mourn upon her, because the-cargo-and-freight of-them no-one buys any-longer..."

The harlot city was doing a massive amount of buying and selling because that was the old covenant system operating under the need for staggering amounts of goods for their temple cultus system of worship and for their sacrifices. The merchants of the ancient world wept, and the secular historians tell us exactly why. The Roman Senator Cicero, in his legal defense document Pro Flacco, formally complained about the massive amounts of gold being hoarded in the Jerusalem Temple. The Jewish historian Flavius Josephus, in his historical record The Jewish War, records that for a single Passover, the Temple consumed over 250,000 lambs. The Temple was the Central Bank of the Levant.

When the Romans burned the Temple in AD 70, they looted the side-chambers, the tsela. Josephus records that the Romans plundered so much gold from the burning sanctuary that the price of gold plummeted by fifty percent across all of Syria. The gold market crashed.

The merchants wept because the wealthy Pharisees and Sadducees who enforced the 666 mark and bought the land from the Christians in Acts 4 had just been slaughtered by Roman swords. Their real estate was ashes. Their gold was gone. The Old Covenant was completely annihilated. The Rich Young Ruler clung to a world that was entirely vaporized.

PART SEVEN: THE CHAOSKAMPF AND THE ADOPTION OF THE SEA

To fully comprehend the magnitude of the new creation, we must understand the deepest, most terrifying theological concept of the Ancient Near East. It is a concept scholars call the Chaoskampf, the divine battle against the chaos.

In the ancient mind, the ultimate enemy of the covenantal order was not a rival human king. It was the sea. The sea represented the untamed, raging abyss. It was the realm of death, the unorganized void, the place where no covenant existed. In the Babylonian epics, the sea was the dragon Tiamat. In the Canaanite texts, it was the prince Yam. The pagan gods established their creation only by violently slaughtering the sea and using its carcass to build a roof over the earth. They could only manage the chaos through suppression.

But the biblical cosmology takes this ancient framework and elevates it to reveal the ultimate act of divine grace.

Let us look at how the Old Testament consistently defines the sea. It is not merely a body of salt water. It is the geopolitical realm of the non-covenant Gentiles.

Isaiah 57:20:

"But-the-wrongly-aligned-ones are like-the-sea [yam], the-one-being-tossed, for to-be-at-rest it-is-not-able, and-they-toss-up, its-waters, mire and-mud."

Daniel 7:2-3:

"I-was-perceiving in-my-vision with the-night, and-behold-and-look-now, the-four breath-winds of-the-high-waters were-stirring-up the-sea [yam], the-great-one. And-four wild-beasts [cheyva], massive-ones, were-coming-up from-the-sea, diverse-and-different this-one from-that-one."

The sea is the roaring, non-covenant world. It's the exact same unorganized, non-covenant void, the tehom, that we see in Genesis 1:2. The beasts of Daniel 7, which represent the pagan empires of Babylon, Persia, Greece, and Rome, all rise out of this chaotic sea. The sea is the geopolitical opposite of the Holy Mountain - the Mount Zion not built with hands.

THE SUZERAIN COMMANDS THE SEA: MUZZLING THE CHAOS

This exact cosmological framework perfectly illuminates one of the most famous, yet misunderstood, events in the earthly ministry of the Last Adam.

If the sea represents the raging, untamed, non-covenant world of the Gentiles, then the story of Jesus calming the Sea of Galilee is not simply a demonstration of His ability to alter weather patterns. It is a deliberate, prophetic declaration of His identity as the Supreme Suzerain and His mission to reconcile the chaos.

Let's look at the reality of this event in the Gospel of Mark.

Mark 4:39:

"And-having-been-roused, He-strictly-admonished the-wind, and-He-uttered to-the-salt-water-sea [thalassa], 'Be-silent, have-been-muzzled [phimoo].' And-the-wind abated-and-sank-to-rest, and-it-became a-great tranquility-and-stillness."

To the modern, biological reader, Jesus is just talking to hydrogen and oxygen. But to the ancient Hebrew mind, the sea is the abyss. It is the realm of the Leviathan, the realm of the beast, the non-covenant void that threatens to swallow the covenant people. In the Old Testament, only Yahweh has the authority to command the sea.

Psalm 89:9 states "You rule the swelling of the sea; when its waves rise, You still them."

When Jesus stands up in the boat, He is standing as the Great King. But notice the specific vocabulary He uses. He doesn't speak to the water as if it is a chemical element. He speaks to it as if it's a hostile, non-covenant entity. The Greek word He uses is phimoo, which literally means to put a muzzle on a wild beast.

Jesus is looking directly into the roaring chaos of the non-covenant abyss, the very realm from which the beasts of Daniel 7 arise, and He commands it to be muzzled.

And what is the result. The sea does not evaporate. It is not annihilated. It is brought into absolute, perfect peace. It is brought into the rest of the Suzerain.

This moment on the Sea of Galilee is a living, breathing microcosm of the entire biblical narrative. The disciples in the boat represent the Old Covenant remnant, terrified of being swallowed by the chaos of the surrounding nations. But the Last Adam demonstrates that He has the authority to subdue the non-covenant world. He previews exactly what He is going to accomplish on the cross and consummate in AD 70. He is going to speak His word over the hostile, non-covenant Gentiles through His apostles, muzzle the chaos (the beast), and bring them into the tranquility of the New Covenant Kingdom.

When we read the Gospel of Mark through the eyes of the Ancient Near East, we realize that Christ calming the storm is the exact theological prerequisite for Revelation 21. Jesus proves He has the authority to muzzle the sea in Mark 4, which guarantees He has the authority to entirely absorb and eradicate the covenantal barrier of the sea in Revelation 21.

In a bilateral Suzerain treaty, the corporate head of the nation represents the entirety of the people. Under the Old Covenant, the High Priest stood in the localized Temple, representing ethnic Israel. The covenant was strictly bounded. The sea, the Gentile chaos, was kept outside the walls.

But the Apostle Paul understood that the Last Adam did not come merely to maintain a localized sanctuary. He came to execute a new creation. Paul recognized that the non-covenant world, the chaotic sea of humanity, was groaning under the weight of its own separation from God.

Romans 8:19-2:1

"For the-intense-anticipation of-the-creation eagerly-awaits the-unveiling of-the-sons of-the-Placer. For to-futility the-creation was-subjected, not willingly, but-rather through the-One having-subjected it, upon hope, that also the-creation itself will-be-liberated from the-servitude of-the-decay into the-freedom of-the-glory of-the-born-children of-the-Placer."

The old creation, the stark division of the covenant world from the non-covenant world, was subjected to futility. But Paul declares it is awaiting liberation. It is waiting to be adopted into the final, TRUE covenantal order.

This is the ultimate, dazzling difference between the false gods of the ancient world and Yahweh. The pagan gods defeated the sea by destroying it. Yahweh defeats the sea by converting it through the act of grace - through divine adoption and reconciliation.

Through the blood of the cross, the Last Adam acts as the Federal Head not just for a localized ethnic tribe, but for the entire functioning arrangement of Jews and Gentiles. He steps into the raging chaos. He takes the covenantal curse upon Himself. And rather than annihilating the non-covenant people, He adopts them. He grafts the wild olive branches into the cultivated tree. He absorbs the chaos into the covenant.

This brings us to the most misunderstood verse in biblical eschatology.

Revelation 21:1:

"And-I-perceived a-sky-heaven fresh-and-new and a-soil-land fresh-and-new; for the-foremost-first heaven and-the-foremost-first land-soil departed-and-passed-away, and-the-salt-water-sea [thalassa] subsists not-any-longer."

The modern literalist reads this text and assumes that in the future, God is going to evaporate the Pacific and Atlantic oceans. This makes absolutely no sense biologically or ecologically.

But to the ancient Hebrew mind, reading this through the lens of Covenantal Cosmology, this is the most beautiful sentence ever written. The sea subsists no longer. The barrier between the Holy Land and the pagan void has been eradicated. The realm of the beast has been emptied. The non-covenant chaos no longer exists, because the Gentiles have been fully adopted into the sanctuary.

The death of the sea is the ultimate act of grace. It means there is no longer an outside to the Temple. The new creation has expanded to consume the entire world. The wild, unformed wasteland of Genesis 1:2 has finally been fully reconciled, illuminated, and seated at the table of the Great King.

CONCLUSION: THE NEW JERUSALEM

As the smoke cleared over the ashes of the physical earthly Temple, the Apostle John was shown the final reality. Again, we have to look at Revelation 21.

Revelation 21:1-2:

"And-I-perceived a-sky-heaven fresh-and-new and a-soil-land fresh-and-new; for the-foremost-first heaven and-the-foremost-first land-soil departed-and-passed-away, and-the-salt-water-sea subsists not-any-longer. And-also the city, the set-apart-and-holy-one, Jerusalem fresh-and-new, I-saw descending out-from-the-source-of the-sky-heaven from the-Placer, having-been-prepared as a-bride having-been-adorned for the-husband of-her."

The Old Cosmos has passed away. The old way humanity could acknowledge and interact with God was done away with. The sea, the chaotic barrier keeping the Gentile beasts away from God, subsists no longer. The New Jerusalem descends, not as a physical building of mortar and stone, but as the Bride.

The symmetry of the Word of God is absolute. In Genesis 2, the First Adam was put to sleep, his side-chamber was opened, and God built the first bride so the physical earthly sanctuary could function. On the cross, the Last Adam was put into the sleep of death, His side was pierced by a spear, His blood and water flowed out, and God began building the believing body of the Bride, the New Covenant, to serve as the living sanctuary of the New Heavens and the New Earth.

The Bible is not a sterile, modern textbook about biological cells and carbon dating. It is the majestic, mathematically perfect, ancient diplomatic treaty of the Great King. He has conquered the chaos. He has torn the first veil to graft in the nations. He has torn down the second veil to bring us into the Most Holy Place. We are called to step out of the ashes of non-covenant shame, receive spiritual exaltation, and enter the eternal Treasury of the Last Adam. The true Israel.
